Some never arrived at all. The mayor posted a simple job: find the cause. Five strangers answered. Kastraer Deepmantle, a dwarven paladin and scholar of cultures beyond the mountain halls. Arum, a quiet forest survivor whose strange magic felt both natural and arcane. Fang, a silent wood-elf hunter who moved through forests like a shadow. Durgan, a miner who carried a massive pickaxe that had spent decades splitting stone. And Runt—a gentle ogre hiding his nature behind illusion and awkward attempts at appearing human. None of them came for glory. They came because the problem existed.

Chapter II — The Hunt Begins

The first ambush revealed the truth. Bandits did not attack like desperate thieves. These raiders worked in coordinated groups, with signals and fallback positions.
