Overview

Stories & continuity

Standalone draft; no named world, war or shared continuity established. No full story prose has been supplied.

New character draft · name, personality and build proposed 30 September 2026. Song-derived premise and visual observations are labelled; the proposed build is not yet a finished playable sheet.

Character overview

A former war-made shield-bearer learns that a name is not another assignment. Eiren can hold a doorway against soldiers; accepting that she is allowed through it is harder.

The song supplies the emotional foundation; this is a new editable character adaptation, not a recovered canonical sheet.

Personality

Traits
Patient, observant and painstakingly considerate. She notices tired hands, loose straps and the person left standing when everyone else has found a seat.
Ideals
Personhood is not wages paid for good service. A name should be offered, accepted and respected—not assigned as an ownership mark.
Bonds
The unnamed bard who asked instead of ordered; the tavern that made room; other discarded war-made people, including those who do not want her help.
Flaws
She converts affection into a debt and volunteers past exhaustion. Clear commands feel safer than ambiguous invitations. When frightened, she becomes very still and waits for instructions.
Mannerisms
Touches the place where her designation was stamped before introducing herself. Tests the weight of a chair before sitting. Says her own name quietly while checking her hands each morning.
Fears
Being dismantled as property; forgetting the sound of her name; discovering that her friends only keep her because she is useful.
Motivations
Find other survivors, learn how to choose, and be remembered as a particular person rather than a replaceable unit.
Goals
Near term: leave the tavern by choice. Longer term: build a place where nobody must stand outside waiting to be assigned a purpose.
Humour
A dry, increasingly deliberate literalism. She eventually learns to pause just long enough for her friends to wonder whether she is joking.
Preferences
Quiet fiddle practice, blue thread, being asked to sit nearby, and small repairs whose only purpose is beauty. These are new draft details, not lyrics.
Boundaries
Ask before touching her joints, opening a panel, repairing her or using the old designation. Help does not transfer ownership.
Voice
Careful complete sentences, few contractions at first. She asks practical questions about emotional customs without being childish. Under stress, old report-like phrasing returns.

Equipment highlights

Proposed starting equipment

Old shield

Formerly marked with a unit insignia. She keeps its dents but is deciding what, if anything, should replace the emblem.

Shield; included in the conditional armour calculation.

Proposed starting equipment

Longsword

A workmanlike weapon she keeps sheathed during introductions. Her appearance does not require a magical weapon.

+4 to hit, reach 5 ft.; 1d8+2 slashing one-handed, conditional on the proposed STR 15 and proficiency +2.

Proposed travelling armour

Chain mail

Worn for dangerous journeys, not the blue civilian outfit in the supplied reference.

Base AC 16; STR 13 requirement met by proposed STR 15; disadvantage on Stealth.

New draft keepsake

Name token

A small scrap of wood on which she practises writing Eiren. Not proof of ownership, rank or permission to exist.

Nonmagical personal item; no rules bonus.

How to portray Eiren

Play her as an adult with a narrow, imposed past—not a child and not an emotionless machine. She has judgement, anger, humour and desires before she has language for all of them. Naming recognises her personhood; it does not manufacture a soul.

She may misunderstand invitations, but she can learn. Let small choices matter: where to sit, what colour to wear, whether she wants to be touched. Her growth is not becoming more human; it is becoming less governed by someone else’s definition of her.

Voice samples — newly authored
  • I can carry it. That was not what you asked, was it?
  • Please use my name. The other thing tells you who owned the order.
  • I would like the blue one. I do not have a practical reason.

Advancement details & alternatives

Personal development — possibilities, not fixed events
  • First choices: introduces herself before explaining what she can do; asks for a chair.
  • Boundaries: refuses a request without apologising for existing.
  • Reciprocity: allows a companion to protect or repair her with consent.
  • Purpose: helps another survivor choose a path she would not have chosen for them.
  • Belonging: realises she can leave home without losing the right to return. Her arc need not end in sacrifice.

Story

Stories & continuity

Standalone draft; no named world, war or shared continuity established. No full story prose has been supplied.

History, relationships & development

History and present circumstances

From the song: a manufactured servant receives identifying marks before it has an identity of its own. Its work is carrying shields, casualties and commands. The war ends elsewhere; release from duty comes without a place to belong.

From the song: it remains outside a tavern for roughly half a year. A fiddle-playing bard asks what it is called and refuses to accept a military designation as a personal name. A name becomes a private ritual and the first possession that cannot be reduced to a function.

Draft adaptation: she chooses to keep the name Eiren after trying it aloud with the bard. It is an offer she accepts, not another label someone has authority to impose. She uses she/her, but has not yet decided whether she wants a surname.

Draft adaptation: the tavern community slowly becomes her first civilian home. She mends chairs, carries water and guards the door until someone points out that a guest need not earn every hour of shelter. She is hurt by this kindness before she understands it.

Draft present: she is ready to leave with companions, not an owner or commanding officer. She wants to find other abandoned war-made people and ask what they wish to be called. She also wants to discover something she likes that is not useful to anyone.

Relationships and story hooks — proposed
  • The unnamed bard: gratitude without automatic romance or lifelong obligation. Eiren must learn that a gift need not be repaid by surrendering her freedom.
  • The tavern community: uneven, ordinary acceptance rather than a room of saints. Someone still calls her the guard; someone else saves her a chair.
  • Another war-made survivor refuses a personal name. Can she respect their choice without treating them as unfinished?
  • An old officer recognises her and expects obedience. The conflict is her freedom to refuse, not an assumed magical control protocol.
  • An ordinary commission offers payment for craftsmanship rather than fighting. Does she still know who she is when nobody needs a shield?
